Customers were today tucking into Burger King Thailand's bizarre cheeseburger - made with 20 slices of American cheese and no meat.

The Thai operator of the U.S. fast food chain announced that the 'real cheeseburger' was available at its outlets nationwide starting Sunday, July 9.

Footage shows burger-lover Thanaporn Chatcharaporn, 26, tucking into the dish at a branch in Bangkok today.

She said: 'It's very, very salty. Almost too salty to eat. The smell is also very strong. At the first bite, it gave me goosebumps, but I couldn't finish the whole thing. I wanted to try it just to see what it was like.'

The glorified cheese sandwich costs 109 THB (around 3.1 USD) - slightly cheaper than a regular meat cheeseburger which costs 129 THB (3.7 USD).

An online ad for the 'real cheeseburger' posted by Burger King Thailand read: 'Not for fun, this is for real! Real cheeseburger from Burger King! Carrying up to 20 slices of American cheese! Price is 109 only from the regular 380 THB.'

Curious customers flocked to stores to sink their teeth into the gooey treat, though some of them said the burger was 'too intense'.

The burger contains a staggering 2,260 calories for the cheese alone, according to CNN.

Aside from the real cheeseburger, Burger King Thailand also offers salmon katsu burgers to cater to local palettes.
