Doctors are planning to operate on an 8-month-old baby who was born with six legs in the village of East Suangi, West Nusa Tenggara.

Footage shows the baby boy named Muhammad Karunia with his parents Sri Gede Jayadi, 33, and Sri Nurul Hidayati, 31.

The boy's mother Sri Nurul Hidayati said that from a young age she found it difficult to care for her baby: "Since the age of 1 month, it's been difficult to wear diapers, pants and clothes, not to mention the talk of the community saying why is it with their child, even though she is a nurse."

In addition, at the age of 8 months, Hidayati admitted that her baby has a very slow growth rate and the baby even had difficulty passing stools or defecating and even bleeding.

"His defecation is very difficult, then sometimes it's mixed with blood and the straining is a bit hard, basically up to eight months it's been a bit heavy," he said.

Hidayati hopes that her child can be operated on soon so her baby can live a normal life.

"In preparation for surgery, we as a family expect the hospital to accelerate the operation, because my child really wants to be like other children, stand and have normal organs."

The director of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial General Hospital (RSUP), Lalu Herman Mahaputra, will perform an operation to separate extra limbs from the baby but is still waiting for a team of doctors from Dr Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya, East Java.

He said: "We are ready here, but the team from Soetomo won, who are still waiting for the next step.

"We need a combined team, we only have one pediatric surgeon and this requires a lot, so we asked for help from Dr. Soetomo and his team at the hospital."
