Female leopard walks past camera trap in rare sighting on Thai mountain
A leopard was seen walking past a camera trap in a rare sighting on a mountain in Thailand.
The female spotted predator was caught on surveillance footage prowling through the undergrowth on the Doi Chiang Dao mountain in Chiang Mai province on July 6.
Kritsayam Kongsatri, the director of the Protected Area Regional Office 16, said that the Doi Chiang Dao Wildlife Research Station had installed cameras in the area to assess various predators hunting down gorals and other herbivores on the mountain.
The leopard, the official said, plays a vital role in the food chain by keeping the population of these herbivores in check and keeping them from destroying the forest vegetation.
