A bullied teenager with dwarfism has regained her confidence by joining dance contests.

Jasmine Kate Eleja, 16, found out she had the medical condition when at four-years-old when her worried parents noticed she was barely growing.

Being the shortest in her school, Jasmine said she often had to fight off bullies who made fun of her height, but that didn't keep her from her love of dancing and even won competitions.

Footage shows the youngster - who now stands 3' 3'' high - practicing her dance moves at home in Negros Occidental province, the Philippines. The responsible daughter also helps tidy their home and is a diligent honours student in school.

She said: ‘Sometimes I feel sad because the other kids at school tease me and say I look like a kindergarten girl. I try not to think about it too much, and dancing helps me.'

Despite her condition, Kate excels at school, receiving awards for joining contests and having high grades.

Her grandmother Nida Balbontin said: ‘I am scared for her because she's small but we are proud of her for being a strong and a smart child.'

While her condition is untreatable, Kate said she will continue striving for a normal life.

She said: 'I like dancing but TikTok and Facebook always ban my videos. They think I'm a toddler so they remove them.

‘But these are small things, and what's important for me is I have supportive family and friends who like me for who I am. I will still continue dancing despite it all.'

Dwarfism is a condition that causes extreme short stature due to genetic factors. The world's shortest adult man - American Samoan farmer Chandra Bahadur - had dwarfism and grew only for up to 56cm.
