Residents in Paducah, Kentucky, woke up to a tornado-warned storm passing through the area on August 14.

Footage shows flickers of lightning illuminating the night sky as heavy rain and strong winds battered the area.

The filmer said: "On this day the loud frequent thunder prompted me to get up and look at the radar and that's when I saw rotation on the radar just a few miles south of me and 10 minutes later that rotation on radar became a tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service out of Paducah, Kentucy in McCracken County.

"I have been through this before, in fact, many times so far in 2023 as it is becoming completely evident there is an uptick in tornadic activity in this region...where it was once quiet.

"Over the past 45 years, the traditional tornado alley has been slowly shifting east in the United States and it appears that it is now in my backyard!"
