STORYLINE:

The construction of the hull of China's self-designed cylindrical Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit for offshore oil development has been completed in China's Tianjin.

According to the Offshore Oil Engineering Co., LTD., the project "Offshore Oil 122" is a project of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) which marks a new breakthrough in the research and development and manufacturing technology capability of China's deepwater ultra-large offshore oil and gas equipment.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): NIE JIAQIANG, Construction Manager of CNOOC "Offshore Oil 122" Project
"This project adopts a new cylindrical structure design. Compared with the traditional ship structure, it has the characteristics of less steel consumption, good overall stability, and strong ability to resist severe sea conditions, which can reduce the project investment and effectively improve the economic applicability."

The device has a maximum diameter of approximately 90 meters and empty ships weigh 37,000 tons. With a maximum displacement of 100,000 tons, it can store up to 60,000 tons of oil.

It can process about 5,600 tons of crude oil every day, and can operate at sea for 15 years without returning to dock.
