A baby monitor lizard was caught hiding under clothes shop shelves in Thailand.

The 2ft long reptile entered the store and crawled behind the rack where the packed shirts were held in Nakhon Pathom province on July 30.

Footage shows a store clerk chasing the creature out with a broom and clapping to scare it away as it tried to conceal itself behind piles of clothes.

The juvenile lizard went to the corner of the door and crawled out before escaping to the sewers.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
