This is the chaotic moment a rampaging wild monitor lizard took over a young lad's bedroom in Thailand.

Footage shows the lathe reptile scurrying across the mattress as it frantically searched for a way out in Samut Prakan province.

The creature then ran outside the bedroom and into the kitchen, climbing up shelves, breaking bottles and pans.

It finally escaped the house through a well and plunged into the water.

Resident Palo Yanong said: ‘I heard something rustling inside my bedroom so I went to check.

‘It was my first time seeing one that close so I followed it around. It broke a few bottles of spices when it climbed up the cabinets.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
