This is the dramatic moment a child was winched safety from a stricken cable car in Pakistan this evening.

Two of the youngsters have so far been airlifted by a helicopter from the carriage stuck 900ft above the ground in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as night fell on August 22.

Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said a helicopter was able to reach the location of the lift. However, reaching the youngster in the lift is a more difficult operation.

A commando was previously lowered to the rickety cable car but avoided entering the object amid fears the extra weight could cause the cable to snap.

Officials said chairlift connects two communities in the region and runs on two cables. One of the cables snapped, causing the chairlift to become stranded.

Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar ordered all 'dilapidated and non-compliant chairlifts' to close immediately.
