An NHS doctor has gone viral on TikTok after revealing how often and why humans pass so much gas – including why some people are worse than others.

The GP, who goes by Doctor Sooj online, said the average person is believed to fart between five to 15 times a day.

But this isn’t just a case of eating a lot of beans.

The 31-year-old medical professional from Hertfordshire shares that there are many reasons people could suffer from excessive farting.

The doctor, who has 47,500 followers on social media, ( ) explained further in a TikTok, which has 587,600 views so far.

“The NHS says that the average person farts between five and 15 times a day, but more than that can be normal for some people,” Dj Sooj says in the clip.

“However, it can also be an indicator of certain conditions.

“People who have lactose intolerance or coeliac disease tend to be more flatulent than others.

“It can also be a sign of things like constipation, eating things that are difficult to digest and irritable bowel syndrome.”

The TikTok has over 7,300 likes and plenty of comments from baffled users.

Many people confessed to passing gas much more often than the NHS average.
