STORYLINE:

Spanish business leaders sought export opportunities to the Chinese market in various sectors at an event on Thursday at the headquarters of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations in Madrid.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Spanish): MARCELO MUNOZ, President of Catedra China
"No other market in the world is bigger than the Chinese market. But we ignore it in practice."

China is the second-largest consumer of Spanish olive oil outside of Europe.

The role of the Interprofessional Organization of Olive Oil from Spain, which this year celebrates 25 years of presence in the Asian country, was highlighted.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Spanish): PEDRO BARATO, President of Interprofessional Organization of Olive Oil from Spain
"This is what a Chinese person consumes per year. Imagine if instead of consuming this, he consumes 5 liters of olive oil."

In order to promote the market, the organization launched the "Spanish Olive Oil, New Fashion" campaign in China last year, aiming to make the product a symbol of fashion, health, and sustainability.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Spanish): MARCELO MUNOZ, President of Catedra China
"Today in this forum, business opportunities in various industries in China have not yet been taken seriously. The Chinese market and its huge opportunities can bring great benefits to Spanish companies."
