The once-grand Station Hotel in Ayr, a Victorian-era landmark, caught fire on Monday (September 25) as the derelict building quickly became engulfed by solid flames. As many as 15 fire trucks arrived to tackle the blaze. However, firefighters faced challenges as protective sheeting around the hotel made getting water directly onto the fire difficult. This emergency halted train services at the nearby station and road closures in the surrounding area.

On Monday 25th September 2023 a fire was started at the Station Hotel in Ayr, the once grand listed victorian era building which has lain derelict for several years was engulfed in wind driven flames in the early evening and was attended by up to fifteen fire appliances which had raced to the scene. The protective plastic like sheeting which covered most of the building proved a hindrance to the fire service as they were unable to jet water through it on to the fire.

Train services in and out of the adjoining station were halted and nearby roads closed the vehicles and pedestrians.
