Watch the fascinating life-cycle of Painted Ladies butterflies as they undergo a transformation.
Beginning as small caterpillars, the insects supplied by a butterfly farm gorge themselves on a specially-produced culture, rapidly expanding, until moulting one final time and changing into chrysalids.
Their final moult, with the caterpillar head and legs can be observed in the footage filmed over August and mid-September 2023.
The brown and gold chrysalids hang upside down until emerging as butterflies, and after feeding were released outside to continue their life cycle.
