A huge wild boar was caught on video as it ran loose across a city, damaging cars during its rampage before it entered a river and escaped.

A surveillance camera captured the snorting wild hog running in front of a small shop selling fruit and vegetables after it reportedly came down from the mountain in Dalian, in north-eastern China's Liaoning Province on the morning of September 22.

Two men apparently opening the store for the day were filmed standing outside in confusion as they watched the wild animal run into the streets.

Later, a woman managed to record the boar that could reportedly be heard making loud noise as it sprinted across a residential area, frightening pedestrians who rushed to move out of its path.

Eyewitnesses said that after colliding with several cars, the wild boar fled into the Xiao Si River.

It was reportedly spotted advancing through the mud on the riverbank before it escaped from sight.

One resident said: 'It must have weighed at least 300 kilogramme.'

Witnesses reportedly alerted authorities, but police and firefighters were unable to catch up with it and let it return where it came from on its own.
