This is the bizarre moment a hyper-isolated rain shower drenched only half of a busy road.

Residents were baffled by the strange weather phenomenon captured by a passerby in Manila, the Philippines, on September 25.

Footage shows the tropical downpour hitting the interection - leaving one stretch of the road bone dry and soaking cars waiting at the traffic lights in Makati City.

Onlooker Tine Panganiban said: 'We saw the isolated rainshower and it was strange because the road was half wet and half dry. The rain stayed in one place.'

A hyper-isolated rain shower is a very localized rain shower that is completely surrounded by dry air. It is so isolated that it can be difficult to detect on radar. Hyper-isolated rain showers are typically caused by a combination of atmospheric instability, a weak vertical wind shear and strong surface heating.
