STORYLINE:

A seminar to jointly promote the Belt and Road cooperation between China and Myanmar and work together to share development and prosperity was held in Yangon on Thursday.

The seminar featured discussions on China-Myanmar cooperation projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Speaking at the seminar, Union Minister for Union Government Office 1 U Aung Naing Oo said, "Today's seminar reflects our deliberation with the spirit of diplomacy and collaboration and shared commitment to prosperity and stability in the context of Belt and Road Initiative."

"We are fully aware that the Belt and Road Initiative is not just about building roads and connection. It is a sample of unity, quality and shared progress," he said, adding that BRI plays a pivotal role in connecting nations and expressing human civilizations.

"The Belt and Road Initiative already promoted cultural exchanges and shared learning on conflicts and harmonious co-existence. The goal of this strategy is to foster mutual respect, understanding and trust among different nations," he said.

He added that the seminar serves as a platform for sharing views and leveraging a unique perspective and experiences to contribute to continued enhancement of future cooperation force within the context of Myanmar and on the borders in regional and global scale.

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai said that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative.

He also proposed to enhance the development of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, saying that Myanmar is one of the countries that early responded to the BRI. Myanmar formed the steering committee for implementation of tasks relating to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative in 2018.

Under the BRI cooperation, China and Myanmar have been working together on various projects including Kyaukphyu deep sea port and industrial zone, Muse-Mandalay railway and Mandalay-Kyaukphyu railway.

About 100 representatives from both countries, including government officials, businesspersons and media, participated in the event in Yangon.
