A frightened stray dog with its head stuck inside the car engine was rescued.

The hapless black pooch crawled under the vehicle in a couple's garage to sleep for the night but could not pull itself out when it poked through the hole underneath in Songkhla province, Thailand, on October 19.

Footage shows the tired canine sitting under the car while its head was caught between the space in the engine. The car owner used a jackscrew to lift his vehicle and free the dog. It was unhurt and given a meal.

House owner Yatawee Thirarat said: ‘We were already sleeping when we heard the dog cry. If we didn't find it in time, it could have died from suffocation.'

Thailand, a largely Buddhist nation, believes that kindness towards animals should be encouraged, with temples sometimes being a safe refuge for stray cats, dogs, and even monkeys that don't have homes.
