STORYLINE:

A senior management training program for the Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway concluded recently in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

A total of 35 senior executives from Ethiopia and Djibouti had attended the two-month training in Tianjin Railway Technical and Vocational College.

"The training is practical. And we've seen the depots in the stations and how advanced the technology for the railway, and also the discipline that manage the industry. So after we are going (back), we will continue what we have learned. So we will implement in our country and in the company."

"Through the expert lectures and on-site visits during the training, they have learnt about the development of China's railway and its operation and management system, which will help them better operate the Ethiopia-Djibouti railway."

The 752-km Ethiopia-Djibouti standard gauge railway, also known as the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway, is the first electrified trans-boundary railway in Africa, a flagship project under the framework of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.
   
The project officially started commercial operations in January of 2018.
