The government of Tanzania on Wednesday launched China's Luban workshop at state-run Ardhi University in Dar es Salaam to promote skills and technological pursuits for youth at the higher learning institution.

Speaking at the launch of the Luban workshop, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Adolf Mkenda said the construction of the Luban workshop at Ardhi University is an important move in nurturing vocational skills, which supports Tanzania's development plans across sectors.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ADOLF MKENDA, Tanzanian Minister for Education, Science and Technology
"Luban workshop will help us promote technical skills to the youth through training and field experience and also strengthen Ardhi University (ARU) in terms of the mandate that it has to deliver to the country.
The establishment of the Luban workshop at ARU fits very well with the national education and training policy, the centerpiece of which is vocationalizing a significant segment of our education system by imparting skills to our youth, preparing them to be employable or to be employed and the nature of the workshop itself really fits very well with that objective."

Chen Mingjian, the Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, said the Luban workshop in Tanzania is committed to serving the economic and social development of the country.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): CHEN MINGJIAN, Chinese ambassador to Tanzania
"As President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said China is a trustworthy development partner. The Chinese embassy in Tanzania shoulders the responsibility for strengthening the flourishing bilateral ties. Therefore, we will give our full support to the construction and management of the Luban workshop project in Tanzania and promote people-to-people exchanges and enhance the friendship between our two countries and peoples."
