In a lengthy firefighting effort, Montgomery County firefighters, with assistance from D.C. Fire, battled a substantial blaze at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chevy Chase. The fire, believed to have originated in the attic around 12:30 p.m., consumed most of the roof structure. MCFRS Division Chief Charles Bailey reported significant damage to both the church's interior and structure, emphasizing a roof collapse that briefly trapped firefighters, fortunately without serious injuries.

Chief Bailey expressed concerns about the potential collapse of the steeple, prompting an engineer's assessment. Despite the challenges, he noted the determination to rebuild, acknowledging the setback for the church community.

Over 100 firefighters responded to the scene, working tirelessly to contain the flames visible above the rooftops. Neighbors and church members gathered throughout the afternoon, expressing solidarity through messages and prayers for the impacted chapel. The extent of water damage complicates the restoration process, underscoring the community's resilience amid this setback.
