Shocking footage shows drivers fleeing as a landslide swept down a mountain road in the Philippines.

Edwin Malonzo and his wife Hazel, were travelling along the Manila North Road in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, to return home when they felt the ground shifting violently on December 3.

Several drivers in front of them brought their cars to a halt as rocks and soil tumbled down the mountain slope. Vehicles and motorcyclists were seen backing up to avoid the debris that covered a section of the road.

Edwin said: 'At first, we thought it was just a small landslide, but it turned out to be a big one. Luckily, everyone is safe.'

The Department of Public Works and Highways regional office said a part of the Manila North Road had been closed due to the landslide that was triggered by rainy conditions over the week.

The office said clearing operations were ongoing.
