A monitor lizard was captured on CCTV trying to steal eggs from a turtle enclosure.

CCTV footage shows the reptile wandering around the African-spurred sulcata cage in a backyard in Bangkok, Thailand.

The wild animal took advantage while the amphibians were busy mating, and the others rested on the corner of the pets' shelter.

According to the owner, eggs had been missing before until they saw the recording. A better fence would be built around the enclosure to prevent the lizard from raiding it again.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite, which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
