STANDUP (English): SANAA KAMAL, Xinhua reporter, Southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah
"Since the Israeli army officially started its military ground operations in Khan Younis in the south of Gaza, dozens of thousands of people fled to the Rafah City which became the only shelter for them. Amid the lack of accommodations in Rafah, tens of thousands of people were forced to establish their tents in open areas. Here, there is no water, food, electricity, or any other services that are supplied for locals here amid the United Nations' warning of the spread of the diseases among the population."

Figures from the UN show that an estimated 1.9 mln people (about 85 pct of the population) are displaced in Gaza.

A recent survey by the UN World Food Program showed that between 83 and 97 pct of families have no adequate food in Gaza.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): Displaced Gazan in Rafah City
"While we were in Gaza City, they (Israelis) ordered us to move south to Khan Younis. I moved here (Rafah City) with my whole family. My sister's husband and six others have died. We are in a permanent displacement, losing our homes and shops. Our lives have already been hell."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): Displaced Gazan in Rafah City
"We arrived in Rafah three days ago. They (Israelis) ordered us to evacuate, so we came here (Rafah City). The situation here is difficult. There is no food, drink, or anything."
