STORYLINE:

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck areas in northwest China's Gansu and Qinghai provinces at 11:59 p.m. Monday, leaving 148 people dead as of Friday, and toppling many buildings.

Relief efforts are in full swing to ensure the essential supplies at the temporary relocation sites in the quake-hit regions in Gansu.

"We are mainly responsible for the traffic around the Liuji Township (of Jishishan County), where there are many relief vehicles. We need to ensure smooth traffic by monitoring road and vehicle conditions."

"This is a relocation site in Taojia Village (of Jishishan County), where we need to supply electricity to 460 households. We must ensure that the supply comes promptly at relocation sites."

"We have provided free beef noodles for two days, about 1,500 bowls each day, to the residents and rescue workers in Shiyuan Township (of Jishishan County)."

"Some sections of the roads have collapsed, and there are some cracks. We are repairing and widening the roads, in a bid to promptly restore normal traffic flow."
