A monorail service in Thailand was suspended after a section of conductor rails plunged from the platform on December 24.

Footage shows sparks flashing as the detached rail struck an electric post causing it to tilt in front of the Department of Irrigation in Nonthaburi, Thailand at around 4:45 am on December 24.

Police cordoned off the area for repairs to the Pink Line train service.

Authorities said service from the Nonthaburi Civic Center station to Pak Kret Bypass was temporarily closed. Meanwhile, the service from Chaeng Watthana - Pak Kret 28 station to Min Buri station remains operational.

Northern Bangkok Monorail, a concessionaire of the train line, said they were investigating the incident with relevant agencies.

Deputy Transport Minister Suraphong Piyachote said that based on preliminary inspections, the collapse was caused by 'nearby utility construction removing sheet piles, leading to an improper level of the rail.'

He said Northern Bangkok Monorail will be held liable for the damage caused to vehicles and government properties.
