A strong earthquake hit the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture on January 1. According to USGS, the magnitude was 7.5. A hundred are dead, and more than 200 are missing in Ishikawa, as of the latest reports.

In the quake-hit areas, residents are unable to return to their homes, remaining in shelters and forced to sleep on the floor of the public school gyms and other evacuation sites with limited supplies.
