This is the moment a mother and her daughter crashed through a concrete barrier into a village pond before they were rescued in China.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras in a village in Rongjiang Township, Jinyun County, in Lishui city in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang at around 10 am on December 31.

The Jinyun County Public Security Bureau Traffic Police Brigade, led by Captain Shu Hong, confirmed that they had received a call at that time about the car that had crashed into the pond.

However, they said that fortunately kindhearted locals had rushed to the scene of the crash and by the time they arrived, everyone had been safely rescued.

The video shows people stepping onto the crashed car or climbing a staircase to help one of the females from the vehicle, and then grabbing a rucksack which was handed to them before the footage ends.

Police added that when they arrived the white sedan had been completely submerged in the pond that was some 2 metres below street level.

Relieved but still shaken, the driver Ms. Hu, said that she had been reversing her car and driven off the road by crashing into the garden wall and dropping into the pond.

She said she had been terrified but was grateful to the villagers that quickly reacted to rescue her and her daughter.

The video shows that within seconds almost a dozen people surrounded the car and worked together to save the mother and daughter and some of their belongings.
