A driver who collided with another vehicle and plunged into a river narrowly escaped drowning by climbing to the roof of her car.

Street surveillance cameras captured the crash as the unidentified woman driving a black sedan and another oncoming vehicle refused to give way at an intersection next to a bridge in Guangdong, China, on the morning of January 4.

Moments later, the two collided, and the sedan seen on the right went off the road and flew into the river.

Meanwhile, the driver of the grey estate car was able to stop before they went into the river as well.

Seconds later, they reversed the vehicle a few feet away from the steep embankment, and two people rushed out from the passenger door.

They ran downwards as the sedan was being carried adrift by the waters, trying to help the woman inside somehow.

Thankfully, she was able to pull herself out through the sunroof and climbed to the top of the car while awaiting rescuers.

Passersby are also seen rushing over to help right before the footage cuts.

The woman appeared to be unharmed, although it is unclear how she was saved.

Local police are yet to clarify if a case has been registered.
