Nacreous clouds over Cleethorpes on 2 February 2016. This is a rare event. The cloud patterns, called nacreous formations, are often compared to the northern lights because of their vibrant, illuminated quality. Nacreous formations take shape in cooler temperatures, usually higher up in the atmosphere and are often only spotted in polar regions. It happens, I've read, only every 20 to 30 years in the UK.
