The volcanic eruption in Iceland which struck the town of Grindavik on Sunday (January 14th) was filmed by a passenger on a passing flight shortly after the fissures broke out.

The clip was filmed by a passenger onboard flight FI440 from Keflavik, Iceland to Manchester on the morning of January 14th.

The filmer commented: "My video was taken onboard flight from Keflavik to Manchester 0800, taken during take off returning from our two year anniversary and my 27th birthday holiday to Iceland. The video was timestamped 0834 because our flight was delayed due to all flights being grounded as the eruption began."
