This is the shocking moment a rampaging passenger who missed his flight climbed into the turbine of a plane at an airport in Utah.

Kyler Efinger, 30, was flying to Denver to see his sick grandfather but was held up in security and missed his flight at the Salt Lake City International Airport on January 1.

CCTV footage shows how Kyler, in dreadlocks and a blue-and-yellow shirt, went into a rampage trying to break through a locked door before barging through an emergency exit door. He ran down a stairwell and found his way into the airfield, where he was seen charging toward an Airbus A220 taxiing on the tarmac with 95 passengers onboard.

Salt Lake City police officers were notified at around 10 pm by an airport store manager who reported the security breach.

Officers said they found Kyler 'partially inside a wing-mounted engine', which was reported to be rotating when he entered. Medics tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speaking to local media, Kyler's father Judd Efinger said: 'He was held up in security, missed his flight, and those phone calls, I just knew it was coming on. They call it the manic phase. Those just don't end well for him. Obviously, this one, the worst ever.'

Authorities have not yet clarified the cause of Kyler's death.
