Bangladeshis are starting to experience the joys of the most popular Chinese celebration as the Chinese Spring Festival draws near.

A Spring Festival Cultural Week recently kicked off at Dhaka University. A large flow of people came to visit and experience cultural activities, including food tasting, paper cutting, calligraphy, and so on.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Bengali): YASMIN AKHTER ITY, Student of Dhaka University
"Today, we are here for the Chinese New Year Festival and there is no better way to get to know Chinese culture. We came in the morning. We tried Chinese games. I also tried the food and tea they offered me. I also tried to practice calligraphy because I love doing my calligraphy from the Fine Arts Faculty. Even I tried paper cutting and compared these things that go with Chinese decoration culture with ours. It's very nice. Even a little while ago we were trying the (Chinese) food, very good. I'm very pleased to see this program at our university."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Bengali): TAUSIF ZAMAN SAIKAT, Student of Dhaka University
"You can see that lots of people attend this Chinese New Year program. From my personal view, I think that our young people are embracing this culture to a great extent. Our youth generation is taking advantage of the good opportunities created by the China-Bangladesh relationship."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Bengali): ASM MAKSUD KAMAL, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University
"Through the celebration of this event, an opportunity has been created to strengthen the relationship between our two countries. Because the interest among the students has been increased through this cultural event. Through this interest, we can get to know the two countries. Our economic, educational and cultural relations are strengthened. The doors of our hearts are more open."

The event was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, the Information Office and the Foreign Affairs Office of China's Yunnan Province, co-organized by Yunnan University and Dhaka University, and hosted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka.
