Frenzied locals collected beached skipjack tuna that were pushed by waves into the shallows in the Philippines.

Footage shows the excited residents with their families as they helped each other put the large fish into basins in Aklan province on February 3.

They hauled the tuna, which were at least 30inches long each, into containers and brought it their homes and sold the others.

Local Grace Destor said: ‘We believe that the fish were a blessing from God, given to our place to enjoy. We are so grateful.'

Strange currents, storms, temperature swings, or tides can all potentially catch schools of fish by surprise, sweeping or luring them into an accidental grounding if they fail to swim back quickly enough.
