Eight stray puppies that were found covered in filth in a sewage drain were pulled to safety by animal rescuers in Thailand.

The volunteers prised open the concrete manhole and pulled out the frightened baby dogs using a grabber in Suphan Buri province on February 5.

Footage shows how the drenched pooches were fished out one by one from the drain, with their worried mum sniffing them as they were placed in a cardboard box.

A vendor living nearby had alerted the officers after hearing the puppies crying under the pavement near the U Tong Hospital.

Following their rescue, the canines were dried off and adopted by a resident.
