A pod of dolphins raced in front of a ship, making for a breathtaking scene.

Footage shows the marine animals swiftly gliding underwater and occasionally jumping to the surface in the Philippines on February 8.

The large sea creatures swam near each other, amazing the crew who was watching from the vessel.

One of the crew members Rey Caballes said: ‘I think they were the same pod that we keep seeing en route. They were very playful.'

Dolphins, especially certain species like bottlenose dolphins, sometimes swim and leap alongside fast-moving ships in a race. It's most often observed behaviour in smaller pods of juvenile or adolescent dolphins seeking thrill and play opportunities. Racing ships allow them to swim at top sustained speeds.
