This is the shocking moment an out-of-control truck barreled through a checkpoint, seriously injuring an officer in Thailand.

Footage shows the fast-moving 10-wheeler plowing through the road barriers in front of the Phayao Provincial Agriculture and Technology College at 8:25 pm on December 16.

Truck driver Chum, 62, said he was driving down a hill around 650ft away from the checkpoint but was unable to slow down because of his heavy cargo.

The truck hit Police Corporal Natdanai Arayakul and dragged him some 330ft along the road, leaving gruesome blood smeared on the tarmac. He was rushed to the Phayao Hospital with injuries to his head, brain, and ribcage.

Natdanai's stricken parents have declined to give a statement.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
