Head of village arrested by police for possessing illegal liquor in southern India

K. Prakash Naidu, a sarpanch (village head) was arrested by the police after he was found to have possessed illegally manufactured liquor in southern India's Andhra Pradesh.

This incident took place on the outskirts of the Palamaner town in Chittoor district on February 28.

Visuals showed the policemen involved in this operation speaking about the arrest. Naidu, who is 57 years old and the sarpanch of the Gollapalle panchayat of Bangarupalem mandal, was detained by the police on charges of illegally carrying the bottles of liquor which amount to Rs 2 lakh (USD 2411.81).

The car in which the liquor was found was also seized by the cops. The police also investigated the case and came to the conclusion that the liquor, which was manufactured in Karnataka, was being carried to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The cops also stated that leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have been selling this illegally manufactured liquor from Karnataka in Andhra Pradesh.
