Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro held a rally on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, on February 25th. The gathering began around 9 am, at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp). The event was attended by at least four governors, including Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), from São Paulo, and Romeu Zema (Novo), from Minas Gerais.
On previous occasions, pro-Bolsonaro acts also occupied Avenida Paulista, with protesters gathering and expressing support for the president. In 2021, one of these events brought together 125 thousand people, according to an estimate from the São Paulo government, although organizers expected 2 million people. On Labor Day 2021, protesters gathered on the same avenue with calls for “military intervention”.
The policing scheme in the region had 2,000 agents, according to information from the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat. These events on Avenida Paulista have been remarkable and reflect the political polarization in Brazil.
