Footage shows huge fire roaring out of top of South Kensington building - 11 in hospital
Footage shows a huge fire roaring out of the top of a South Kensington building - which left 11 people in hospital.
The blaze broke out in the Emperor's Gate property at 12:31am today (Fri).
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said 15 engines and around 100 firefighters attended.
Eleven people were treated for smoke inhalation in hospital, the service added.
A passer-by, who captured the footage, said: "There was a massive emergency response presence. Gloucester Road was closed and the whole area was locked down. "
"There were lots and lots of people - the people had been evacuated were next to the Waitrose."
Everyone was looking really shaken and quite scared.
"I went onto the rooftop terrace so I could get a clear view and got pictures and video from up there." "
LFB said: "Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to a fire at a terraced house converted into flats on Emperor's Gate in South Kensington."
"The fire was located in a terraced five storey building. A mansard roof and the third floor of the property were destroyed by the fire. The first and second floor were extensively damaged, and the ground floor was partly damaged in the incident."
"Around 15 people left the building where the fire started before the Brigade arrived. In total around 130 residents were evacuated from the property where the fire started as well as the neighbouring buildings."
"Two people were rescued by crews from a second floor flat using a 13.5 metre ladder, two people were rescued from a fourth floor flat by crews using a turntable ladder. One person was rescued from a first floor flat by crews using a short extension ladder."
"Around 11 people were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service."
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
