Roberto Azevedo, former Director-General of the World Trade Organization, officially accepted an appointment on Friday as a member of the Council of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA).

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Azevedo underlined China's efforts to provide a stable economic environment by improving the dispute settlement mechanisms.

"I think China has a very important role to play in today's world. Investors, companies, they want predictability. They want to know that the rules will be followed. And the attempts by China to provide this kind of stable economic environment are extremely important for global economic growth at the end of the day. So it's important that you find dispute settlement mechanisms among economic agents. That is fast, that is unbiased, that is efficient, that is credible. And all those things are things that the SCIA is looking for. It's trying to provide to operators of economic corporators."
