A nightjar baffled locals by perfectly camouflaging on the ground.

Jerome Alcantara saw the avian blending with the foliage, creating the illusion of a brown leaf in Santa Maria, Laguna, the Philippines, on February 27.

Footage shows the bird sleeping below a small tree with brown leaves surrounding it, making it invisible to the residents' eyes.

Upon closer inspection, they identified it as a nightjar and were amazed at its camouflage skills.

Jerome said: 'I can't believe birds could do that! It was so cool!'

Philippine Nightjars are nocturnal birds that usually nest on the ground. Their soft plumage camouflages them to resemble bark or leaves.
