This is the dramatic moment two escaped police horses ran along a highway in Cleveland, Ohio.

The pair caused a commotion on Interstate 90, the longest highway in the United States.

They escaped from the Cleveland police stables and made their way onto the busy highway, temporarily slowing down traffic.

Surveillance videos from the Ohio Transportation Department captured the horses weaving through cars in oncoming traffic, followed by a police car with flashing lights.

The horses eventually turned towards a grassy area and disappeared out of sight.

Cleveland police sergeant Wilfredo Diaz confirmed that the horses had strayed during routine care and exercise but were promptly recovered by mounted officers without any further incidents.

The police department's mounted unit, which consists of eight horses and eight police officers, is responsible for patrolling the city on horseback.

The Ohio Department of Transportation referred to the incident as 'some real horsepower on I-90 in downtown Cleveland today. Any injuries? Neigh.'

The horses involved in the incident are part of the Cleveland mounted police team and are named Breeze, Chex, Jim, Larry, George, Mandy, Jack, and Nimo.
