This is the dramatic moment a powerful storm blew through a family's patio in Thailand.

The residents were having lunch when strong gusts lashed their home in Maha Sarakham on March 19.

CCTV footage shows how the blast of wind toppled a parked motorcycle and nearly blew away the family's food and picnic mat as the family braced against the gales.

Resident Parawadee said: 'The summer storm was very scary. We couldn't escape into the house right away because the wind was so strong and blew in unexpectedly.'

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted scattered thunderstorms with gust and hail in the country's northern and northeastern regions from March 19.

The agency said: 'During 19 – 20 Mar, another moderate high-pressure system from China will extend to upper Thailand and the South China Sea while the easterly and southeasterly winds bring the moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf to the upper country where hot to very hot weather occurs.'
