A spectacularly bright meteor illuminated the skies over Spain.

Footage shows the breathtaking streak of bluish light that outshined the moon as seen from Tarragona on March 22. The celestial event was also seen in Castellon.

The Spanish Network for Meteorite Investigation (SPMN), in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), shared these remarkable sightings, underscoring the scientific value of such observations.

A meteor, also sometimes called a shooting star or falling star, is a streak of light seen in the sky when a piece of rock or metal from space burns up as it enters the Earth's atmosphere.

The majority of meteors entering Earth's atmosphere move at very high speeds, often exceeding 70 km/s. This rapid speed causes them to heat up and glow.
