Momotombo Eruption
Day and nighttime eruptions from Momotombo volcano in Nicaragua, north of Managua lake. Since more then 100 years this volcano showed no eruption, but at the end of 2015 it reawakened. In the meantime Momotombo shows strong, but short lasting explosions in a daily to weekly period.
This nighttime timelapse (at the beginning) and the real time video later on is a very rare high resolution documentation of this activity.
Both explosive eruptions happened on Sunday, 21th Feb. 2016, at around 4h and 10h in the morning.
