A motorcycle rider survived being entangled in loose cables then getting dragged 70ft along a road and crushed by her scooter.

The hapless woman, identified by local media as Sandhya, was leaving her husband's shop when a passing lorry carrying timber dislodged several overhead cables in Karunagappally town in Kerala, India, on March 23.

Harrowing CCTV footage shows how the wires, caught on logs loaded onto the speeding lorry, lassoed Sandhya as she was scrambling to dismount her Activa scooter.

She was dragged some 70ft along the road before her two-wheeler bounced 10 feet into the air and smashed into her.

Sandhya reportedly suffered a fractured shoulder and was rushed to a private hospital in Kollam for treatment. She was later transferred to the Parippally Medical College and is currently in a stable condition.

Karunagappally Police have registered a complaint against the lorry driver under sections 279, 337, and 338 of the Indian Penal Code covering 'rash driving', 'causing hurt by a negligent act', and 'causing grievous hurt by a negligent act'.

A police spokesman said: 'The lorry was seized and the driver was arrested. The vehicle was released on bail after the driver's arrest was recorded.

'The woman's health is still steady. The driver claimed he was not even aware of what was going on behind him.'

Sandhya was reported to be receiving intensive care at the hospital.
