A woman's brand-new iPhone was shattered to pieces when she accidentally dropped it in the gap between the lift and the door while trying out its camera.

In CCTV footage, the young woman could be seen riding the lift with her boyfriend, both not named, while returning to their apartment in Zhangzhou, in Fujian, China, on the evening of March 19.

The young couple were taking selfies in the lift with the iPhone the woman had reportedly just bought to try out its features.

However, as the lift doors opened, her boyfriend accidentally hit her arm, causing her to drop the phone.

The device fell and slid through the gap between the lift and the floor.

Shocked, the woman shouted out loud and knelt on the ground trying to see if the phone had landed nearby.

Realising it was lost, she began crying while her boyfriend called the maintenance crew.

She later told local media: 'My boyfriend wanted to hold my hand, and accidentally knocked the phone off.'

Incredibly, the phone survived the fall despite flying seven floors down the empty shaft.

In a later follow-up, she said: 'Just the back screen shattered, and the phone was slightly bent with the wires inside the volume keys broken, but everything else is fine for now.

'It's already fixed, replaced the mid-frame, and also repaired the back screen, volume keys, and tempered glass. Luckily, at least the front screen is fine.'
