Rioters attack KFC in Pakistan over fast food chain's 'ties for Israel'

Rioters have attacked a KFC restaurant in Pakistan over the fast food chain's connections to Israel.

Violence erupted when protesters set fire to the branch in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, on Friday night, March 29.

Police fire tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several people were injured when the rioters ran for cover.

Dramatic footage captured the KFC store being set ablaze and looted, with a mob storming the eatery and causing destruction in their wake.

'We have set the KFC restaurant on fire,' a jubilant man exclaimed in Urdu as the flames engulfed the establishment.

In one video, hundreds of protesters mostly young boys can be observed departing on foot as law enforcement officers are seen deploying tear gas.

In another video clip, a man is shown with blood seeping from his head. Footage also showed the restaurant in flames, with people fleeing the scene as rioters reportedly torched the building.

Stones were thrown at the fried chicken eatery, leaving windows marked with signs of the vandalism.

The window panes were also spotted with bullet holes following the tragic incident

Reports indicated that the protestors had attempted to shut down the KFC branch before clashes broke out, resulting in the restaurant being set on fire.

A British tourist told the MailOnline that the attack was sparked by anger over the fried chicken restaurant chain's links to Israel amid the war in Gaza.

KFC's parent company, Yum Brands, has attracted boycotts worldwide over its decision to continue trading in Israel and its investment in Israeli start-ups.

The restaurant giant, which owns KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, has faced a slump in sales in recent months amid boycotts from many pro-Palestine campaigners.

Pakistan, a Muslim-majority country, has seen calls for the boycott of a number of the company's restaurant chains escalate in recent months as the conflict rages on.

Last month, fans in Pakistan urged a boycott of the Pakistan Super League cricket tournament because of its association with KFC, according to reports.
