On Monday, April 8th, 2024, in the hilly terrain between Mezzane and Pian di Castagne, in the Eastern part of Verona, a dramatic rescue operation unfolded as two individuals lost control of their quad bike and plunged into a ravine approximately 10 meters deep.

The incident, which occurred in the afternoon of April 7th, prompted an immediate response from the fire brigade. The alarm was raised by one of the individuals, a man who sustained minor injuries but managed to reach the road and summon help.

Firefighters from the Caldiero and Verona stations swiftly mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the injured woman stranded in the ravine. Employing specialized SAF (Speleo Alpine Fluvial) techniques, the firefighters descended into the ravine. Collaborating with Alpine rescue personnel, they cleared vegetation to facilitate the approach of a Trento emergency helicopter.

After stabilizing and securing the woman onto a stretcher, the helicopter transported her to Trento Hospital. Subsequently, a fire brigade helicopter from Venice retrieved the damaged quad bike, lifting it from the scene for transport.
