Brazil: Man Arrested For Pointing Green Laser At Police Helicopter in Pernambuco
State of Pernambuco, Brazil - April, 7.
Man points a laser in the direction of a helicopter from the Secretariat of Social Defense of Pernambuco, Brazil, Sunday, April 7, 2024. He was arrested.
A man has been arrested for pointing a green laser at a police helicopter, as can be seen in this footage.
The first video, shot from a helicopter as it flew over the city of Olinda, on Brazil’s northeast coast, near the city of Recife, shows the blinding laser beam targeting it from the ground.
The second video shows the laser still being pointed at the helicopter, with the final piece of footage showing the police arresting the suspect after tracking him down to the house.
The police issued a warning to anyone thinking of doing something similar, saying in a statement on 8th April: "ATTENTION! Indiscriminate use of lasers is a crime!
"For those who didn't know, the indiscriminate use of lights and long-range lasers against aircraft or vessels is a crime and can lead to imprisonment.
"The crime falls under article 261 of the Brazilian Penal Code and carries a sentence of two to five years in prison.
“Exposing your own or someone else’s vessel or aircraft to danger, or carrying out an act intended to prevent or hinder sea, river or air navigation” (CPB).
"Do not point a laser towards the sea, rivers or sky, as this could cause accidents, put your life or the lives of others at risk. In addition to taking anyone who breaks the law to prison."
